8 wines to sip this summer

Fortune Magazine celebrated the 4th of July with a wine roundup highlighting crisp and refreshing bottles to enjoy throughout the summer season, including Dog Point Sauvignon Blanc 2019, Langlois-Chateau Sancerre 2019 and Château Minuty 281 2019.

In addition to touting Dog Point’s organic farming practices and handpicking 100% of their fruit (virtually unheard of in New Zealand), the writer described the 2019 Sauvignon Blanc as “wonderfully expressive, silky in texture, and blooming with perfumed aromas characterized by freshly squeezed citrus, completed by flinty and smoky tones.”

After noting Langlois’ reputation as a leading producer in the Loire valley, the writer shares insight about the winery’s 2019 Sancerre. “The grapes that went into the 2019 Sancerre come from a selection of the best vineyard plots as well as from sustainably managed vineyards, resulting in a wine that is serious and complex, while remaining delicate and approachable at the same time.”

The story concludes with the most special of the 8 bottles listed, which happens to be the crown jewel in the Minuty Portfolio, 281. The writer offers context on the origins of its label and name before discussing the wine. “Within the Minuty portfolio, the 281 is the most complex and rich rosé. Ideal for a cooler evening on the coast, the pale wine offers intense aromas of citrus fruits and white flowers, balanced by great depth with a pronounced mineral structure.”

281 refers to the Pantone number for this royal blue color that elegantly cascades in a glaze down the side of the bottle.  It evokes the sky and the sea of Minuty's French Riviera home, in particular the deep blue that appears everywhere after the strong afternoon wind.  100% estate from a single old plot of Grenache whose clone is exclusive to Château Minuty, it is the ultimate reflection of their special seaside vineyard and Provence.

Related Producers

    Dog Point Vineyard

    Marlborough, New Zealand

Almost since its inception, Dog Point  has been recognized as among the very top (arguably the very top) wine producers in New Zealand.  Their two very different Sauvignon Blancs, their Pinot Noir, and their Chardonnay are all wines of astounding quality and complexity not just in the context of New Zealand wines, but globally.

    Langlois

    Loire Valley, France

Langlois has a rich history as one of the leading producers in the Loire Valley. Their Cremants are produced with standards far beyond the appellation requirements and even beyond Champagne AOC standards. The result is Méthode Champenoise wines of incredible finesse.

    Château Minuty

    Côtes de Provence

Château Minuty is the global leader in Côtes de Provence rosé, and beyond that it can be argued is the most important estate in the history of Provence rosé. The Saint-Tropez based, family owned estate has been, since its founding, one of the quality leaders for the region. Minuty then became one of the most visible producers in the second half of the 20th century, a result of quality production and commercial foresight when no one in the region could imagine the global phenomenon Provence rosé would become. And then in the last two decades, Minuty defined the vision for and led the unbelievable growth in Provence rosé around the globe.
