New Napa Valley Wine Concierge Will Get You Wines Not Available for Purchase

Departures wrote a dedicated story on Chateau Montelena’s new customizable Wine Concierge program. The piece elaborates on the luxury offering, which gives wine lovers access to the winery’s extensive library of wines and vintages that would otherwise not be available for purchase.

Montelena produces wines with ageability in mind, and the Concierge program serves as a great way to showcase the lifespan and evolution of the wines – most notably the Estate Cabernet Sauvignon and Napa Valley Chardonnay. “The ageability of wine can be difficult to understand until it’s been experienced,” head winemaker Matt Crafton on the Concierge Program told Departures. “It’s not something we encounter in everyday life and is rare even in the wine world. But the opportunity to taste back through the decades to enjoy a unique moment in the life of a wine is certainly special. Moreover, for collectors who are looking to purchase specific vintages, formats (up to 9L bottles), or to simply glean some firsthand knowledge on how Montelena wines develop over time, this is the best way to do so.”

A true icon. The Napa Valley Chardonnay is the wine that put Chateau Montelena and Napa Valley at the forefront of the wine world in 1976, in what is now memorialized as “The Judgment of Paris.” To great disbelief, the Chateau Montelena Napa Valley Chardonnay was the top-ranking wine against four white Burgundies and five other California Chardonnays. And as they say, the rest is history.

In 1976 Chateau Montelena put California at the forefront of the wine world. That year a who's-who of the French wine establishment gathered in Paris for a blind tasting of French and American wines. When the scores were tallied, the top-ranking white wine was Chateau Montelena's 1973 Chardonnay. Montelena today continues to be a quality benchmark in Napa Valley, producing some of the finest Cabernet and Chardonnay in California.
